Hi
I have a 2013 Discovery with the 255 BHP engine [ 8 speed].
The temp. on the gauge is showing at a quarter on the gauge even after a long run. Can any one else tell me if their Discovery runs at the half way mark as I would expect?
I have telephoned the local dealer and they where no help at all and said it might just be the way my car runs!!!
The fuel economy is around 28 mpg is this also normal, or could this be low as a result of it running cold?
Thanks for your help.

Probably a faulty sender but the only true way of telling is to get a handheld thermometer on there for an independent reading.

As for the MPG, sounds about right but very dependant on your driving style and duty cycle. However, if you're concerned about MPG, I'd suggest you buy an economical car and not a 2.7t 4x4, with the aerodynamics of bungalow!!

I have the same car but 2012. I'm going for a run shortly so I will check but the temp gauge is always bang on centre I think.

Fuel consumption sound fair. We're showing 28.7mpg cover 7000 miles at an average speed of about 25mph. Most of that on winter tyres.

It should certainly sit in the middle of the gauge, but it's a calibrated ECU output to indicate a normal running temp rather than a specific value so it might not be actually an engine temperature issue. Ie. quite a wide temperature range will still give a normal gauge position. Do the heater vents put out nice hot air? Worth getting it checked.

My MY2012 D4 with the 8 speed box sits at the half way point on the temp gauge once it's warmed up

As for fuel consumption, this is my average over the last 2 years
