A friends Defender 90 was stolen from their home address in Lapworth, Solihull on 19th/20th Feb 2014.

Fully kitted out with full cage, wheel winch etc and there were 2 other motors on the drive which were both damaged when the Landy was taken.

I thought it may be worth a shot putting it on here and there has been quite a few stolen in the Hockley Heath, Solihull, Wythall and Warwickshire area in the past year so beware.

Advise the insurance company you wish to retain the numberplate and inform the DVLA ASAP to get the number back.

Sorry to hear that it has been stolen, but as has been said I expect it's long gone.

I know how you feel as my Discovery 4 HSE Lux was stolen from our house in Solihull just last month.

CID have told me that it was stolen to order and would have been out of the country within days of being stolen.

It's seems that new or old land rovers are all susceptible to theft, which makes you wonder what can be done to deter such Thieves!

I hope the insurance sorts you out quickly, looks like mine is going to take ages!

My sympathies.

Out of interest, was it stolen with or without keys?

Thanks for that.

Sadly it was stolen with the keys, they broke into our house at the rear door and took the keys.

Any feedback from the police on yours yet?

Sorry, I'm not the OP. smile

Your post peaked my interest after reading the New BMW's getting stolen using blank BMW keys thread (the last few posts) and seeing someone on gumtree claiming an item they were selling could facilitate the same kind of theft.

Sorry I assumed you were posting on behalf of the OP, did not notice.

Yes it seems that these thieves are getting more sophisticated these days.

Not sure it's worth having a nice car any more! cry

I'm an idealist and of the opinion that if you give in, the scum win. Don't let them.

My friends defender was stolen without keys, no idea how.

nigelpugh7 we had a RRS stolen last year as well and they broke into our house to get the keys from our house in Solihull. It was then found a couple of months later in Brum parked outside a car garage so don't assume the police are right. The garage was stripping down Audis and BMWs to sell the parts abroad and the Sport was being used as a personal car by the criminals. We thought it would have been shipped abroad to say South Africa etc but it was only up the road from us.

Another intelligent way organised crime gangs are stealing cars is through valeting servicing at airports. Say you go abroad and your car is collected at the airport to be stored and cleaned, criminals are cloning the car key and installing GPS trackers. 2-3 months down the line when you've got your car back and you are back to daily life, they will track your vehicle where it could be anywhere in the UK and then drive off using the cloned car key.
No smashed glass, no damaged vehicle, no use of force, no burglary or no robbery.

Quite clever ayy.
