OK spec below is what I have - collect end of May. Question is, what do I need to go for from the LR catalogue or get ordered? Have ruled out a winch, just no need, the majority of it will not be off road use although both sets of familes live in the coutry and I'll spend time on beaches and rock-hopping with work.

Q's: Anyone know if cruise control can be retrofitted by the aftermarket?
Are their any remaps available which won't obviously invalidate the warranty - looking for power and reliable fuel maps rather than the torque towing spec and the tuning to use low grade fuel. Just want to be able to keep a good pace on the motorway and to the alps in winter.
Does anyone fot a good aftermarket sunroof? An actual watertight one..?

Spec is as follows as confirmed today:
110 XS Station Wagon
Fuji White
Black ½ Leather
Santorini Black Roof
Santorini Black Grills
Full Carpet
Audio Upgrade
Premium Front Seats
Gloss Black Sawtooth Alloys
Tow Pack
Privacy Glass
Black Chequer Plate Sills
Black Chequer Plate Wing Tops
Rubber Mats
Track Star Tracker
Front Driving Lights
Ribbed Aluminium Undershield
Hinged Lamp Guards - front pair
Hinged Lamp Guards - rear pair

How fast were you looking to go? A new 110 will cruise happily at 80 without a remap (not to mentione that gearing and tyres limit what's possible, even if you have a bit more power).

Regarding the spec. Worth being clear with the dealer which tow electrics you want (our most recent trailer had 13 pin fitted as standard) as changing later is a fiddly job.

Is that where they replace the cheap radio that you can't hear with an expensive one that you can't hear?

I've just ordered mine without any audio, figuring I'd get it fitted aftermarket. And I ordered winter pack - but XS models may have that as standard. I ordered a base model utility wagon and then spec'd it how I wanted it - most options except air con, electric windows and alloys, figuring these have no place on a defender!

Thanks. Currently in a Disco II and really and truly, over 3krpm (mid 70s) it really sounds like it's straining. The only other Defender I have owned was an 80s 90" which had a Disco box and 200TDi engine so my view has been skewed by those two cars - The 90 was a bit of rocket actually and would cruise at 80+!

Tow hitch is fitted and we have nothing to tow at the moment, who knows what the future will bring though... and it stops people running up the back of us...

Hello Yeti,

I have pretty much what you have ordered (although not all of it), it does 93mph, no faster. On the Motorway/Continental Motorways its fine, but the problem is overtaking on A roads, its dead slow and can't overtake. Also fuel consumption is tragic when hitting the continental speed limit...... frown

I've looked into tuning, there are 2 versions, one with an intercooler and one without, off the top of my head, I think we have 120bhp, about 150 with tuning and 180 with an intercooler..... but you are right there is a big issue with warranty. No one is going to see the tuning alone, but I bet they would spot an intercooler .... frown ..... for the minute I've stuck with the 120 and 93mph, might look at it again when it goes out of warranty......

Others are right about the noise and stereo, I have a nice upgrade, but TBH, you almost need a full HiFi system to make any real difference, but you know you're in a Defender ...... so...... !! ....... also there is no where to put the amps, except under the seats or centre cubby box.....and the passenger seat is on the battery and jack and the driver is over the fuse board ..... my cubby has a 240v system in ..... kids use it every time we use the car.....

Its a noisy, slow, truck ...... I love it smile I use mine loads ...... way more than any other of my cars ......

Thanks Martin, really good info.

Top speed isn't my concern but we have it in our heads that 4 of us with boards and skis will do the alps in it this winter and if it won't cruise comfortably at 85mph all day then we have a very slow journey ahead of us... No, I don't expect to overtake, but I am used to that from all previous LRs I've owned!

I guess I will suck it and see and do a few long runs in it and see if I can live without the modified intercooler system. 180bhp would be very useful though...

I have a new 110 XS SW and live in Germany. Recently returned to the UK to see parents and sat at a comfortable 80/85 mph most of the way. Typical fuel use was 20 ltr's per 100 miles at that speed, not bad for an aerodynamic brickbiggrin

We had 6 up, but we really did need the extra space of a Thule top box, without the Thule (for me) space was just not enough frown the top box did not impeed motorway speed either which was surprising..... although the top box stopped me parking in every purpose (under hotel/house) built French car park.

The Defender was brilliant for this though...... did just what it says on the tin..... smile

With 6 I can imagine that. I think we'd roll the middle row forward and have the rear passengers in the 6th and 7th seats with the equipment running down the centre line! That's what's in my head anyway... Roof box / rack is not an option as it's going to live in underground parking in London anyway.

3,000 rpm in 6th is 90mph in a current 110. Mine sits very comfortably at 75mph on a long run and returns 26mpg at this speed. Has enough grunt to cruise faster, but the fuel gauge drops much quicker and it gets pretty noisy!

With 4 passengers you'll get most stuff in by folding the 2 seater middle row seat forward and using the right-hand third row seat, behind the single middle row one. There is not much space in between the third row seats when folded down.

Don't spec carpets if you want the convenience of opening the rear doors and hosing it out afterwards.

We have carpets but it will be rubber matted up as well.

One thing... The luggage area/boot, call it what you will. Disco has a roller cover that can be pulled over to cover what's in there, is there anything out there to cover the area behind the second row? Can't find anything on the aftermarket.
