How serious is this?
Discussion
2007 RR TDV8. 73,000 miles. I'm getting a clutch slip type feeling once drive is engaged. From start, when I apply the accelerator, the power doesn't come in for a brief time (up to a couple or 3 seconds). It's as if I'm in neutral not drive, then it decides to finally torque up and drive. It's happening more frequently now and I fear something is about to let go. Has anybody here experience of what it is likely to be and what the remedy is. Unfortunately I'm in Eastern Europe with it and don't know if I can trust the one LR service dealership out here

It's possible that you have antifreeze contaminating the gearbox oil: a product called 'Dr Tranny' is apparently effective at cleaning the friction surfaces of the contamination, but that won't solve the leak in the cooler that caused the problem.
A transmission specialist should be able to test the oil and tell you if it's contaminated - in which case you may be in for a new oil cooler and a complete oil 'mega flush', plus a cleanup with Dr Tranny, - or just old/overheated oil, in which case a mega flush oil change should be all you need.
Even that will still be north of £300, though.

The gearbox might be a bit late for them, but worth giving Ashcroft Transmissions a call to see what they say.

Ashcroft are servicing the latest transmissions now. There are also loads of ads at the back of the LR mags specializing in L405 grearbox refurbs. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/
As I've said before, why can't LR just get it right

I took it to a dealer in Poland on the way to an airport. They checked it and the oil level is fine. Oil doesn't appear to have water/antifreeze mixed in it. Filter is the cartridge type and apparently not due for replacement yet. None of this makes me feel relaxed as I'm not entirely trustful of the RR service knowledge/experience level over here. More worrying is that I had planned to take it on the long drive to Le Mans 24hr. I think I'll baby it to Germany and find a more reputable dealership. There's a good one in Berlin. Do these suffer with selector problems, i.e slipping between N and D?
Is this something that you just started to notice or has it always done it?
I've a 2007 TDV8 and find that when pulling away from rest, the drive can sometimes take a while to engage, it's as though the pedal is not directly linked to the engine and it catches me out occasionally when trying to dart out onto a roundabout in traffic.
I hit the pedal, nothing happens for a heart beat or two, then it goes.
I remember Clarkson's review of these when they were new and he mentioned it as being the 1 and only fly in the ointment and urged LR to sort it out.
I guess they never did, on mine anyways.

I totally understand what you mean and that split second or two of lag is normal. Unfortunately, what mine is doing (and has only started doing recently) is revving as if the clutch has slipped as I try to pull off (feels like I'd never engaged the lever into D), therefore no drive. Then I get off the pedal for the revs to drop and have to wait for the power and drivetrain to engage normally again. Still doing it on occasion. Looks like I'm going to Le Mans via the dealer in Berlin! In typical fashion, it doesn't do it whilst the tech is driving it and trying to find the fault and nothing coming up on the fault diagnosis computer.I've a 2007 TDV8 and find that when pulling away from rest, the drive can sometimes take a while to engage, it's as though the pedal is not directly linked to the engine and it catches me out occasionally when trying to dart out onto a roundabout in traffic.

My 07 TDV8 shows the gear selection on the dash, not sure why yours doesn't, I may have missed something in your post.
Anyway - I had similar symptoms - seemed to slip out of gear when stationary/slowing to a stop and then take a moment to find Drive. Definitely became increasingly frequent.
Turned out to be the gear selector linkage - relatively common on Defenders/rare on FF (according to the dealer) - very cheap fix
Hope it's OK to link to another site to help (as there's a thread there on this issue) http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic12975.html

Now that is really helpful and best describes the issue I'm having. I'll check out the linkage. Much appreciated Anyway - I had similar symptoms - seemed to slip out of gear when stationary/slowing to a stop and then take a moment to find Drive. Definitely became increasingly frequent.
