2008 Defender.

Dipped headlights do not work.

Fuses all fine, relays all seated solidly, sidelights work fine, high beams work fine, but dipped headlights do not.

Any ideas?

Ta.

Just a stab in the dark . . . .

Ever since I were a lad, I have found that replacing the blown bulbs almost always cures this problem.

I do hope to have shed light on your problem.

Or have I invited a parroty fly-past?

I discounted the bulbs because they both don't work, unlikely for both to blow at the same time? Also can dipped blow but not full beam?

  1. Unlikely, but eminently possible
  2. Yes, almost always

Cheers - can you tell if a bulb has blown by looking or is it a case of replaceing them on the offchance?

You can usually see the filament but just buy one bulb and try. I'd then get a multimeter on it and see if there's power at the bulb holder and the fuse.

This.
Mine failed going up Kirkstone Pass on New Years Eve in 2011 which made for an interesting experience.
Anyway.....
Sidelights worked, main beam worked, dipped didn't.
Replaced the entire horn/indicator/main beam stalk and everything was fine.
There's no magic to it.

Most people don't realise one bulb has blown until the other one does...
