Hi all

I am looking to buy this Range Rover. Can anyone advise on what to look for in a second hand range rover? Pic below.

Same engine as fitted in the S type Jag?
Engine failures appear common

Based on a Disco 3 which is essentially the same vehicle:

Engine - cambelt at 7 years/105k miles(that service is 700+ at an Indy!)
If a 2007 MY, cheack oil pump has been modified (if no proof, get it done!)
Air suspension all working(compressor alone is 500
Suspension bushes costly to replace (all round is 1100 at an indy!)
All electrics work

etc etc!

Get yourself onto RRsport.co.uk

They have a useful buyers guide here http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/1...

Drive one, see how you like it.

If the front knocks over bumps, it's needing new arb bushes, front lower wishbones or drop links.
If you can jack tr rear up and shake the wheel, any play is usually rear upper arms or hub bushes needing changing.
Check the brake lines going to the rear as they are steel, and can rust. Replace with copper pipes.

Make sure it's got a good battery and alternator as failing items throw up error messages.
Otherwise, check everything works, cycle the air suspension a few times in all heights and check the history.
Check all old mots as RRS have a habit of being clocked.
My Indy used to see them come in with lower miles on the dash but the gearbox ecu had a higher mileage on it.

I'd want to want to see a stack of receipts and invoices for proof of work done. Some of the things that are common failures aren't service items (IE drop links and suspension arms.

Check the state of consumables too. They are =heavy cars so wear brakes and tyres quite quickly compared to 'normal' cars. Thankfully, they is a massive market for spares and consumables for LR, so discs can be had for as little as £30 a side for fronts smile

As others have said, the OP could find a buyers guide very quickly by using Google!

One more thing, you state it is a RRS SE, unles it is ludicrously cheap, I would opt for a HSE spec as you will regret it both in terms of toys & definately come resale time.
