What categories does your licence show, normal car catB limits you to 8persons, if you have D1 then that is up to 16 persons, however check the information/restriction codes next to the category though.

See lists here https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-categories

I don't think so. If you wanted to charge people such as a taxi, then yes, but if you are only driving your family, then you can drive up to 17 including yourself. But only NOT for hire or reward .....

...... I think ..... smile

Class B, if you are driving only for yourself and not for Hire or Reward ......

So, over 21, driving for 2 years, not hire or reward, only UK and no towing, will do for your family, its fine ....

If you're thinking of buying one, get an insurance quote first (have heard it suggested on other forums that there are fewer insurers willing to insure side facing seats).

Asked the dvla! As far as I can understand (we know how they waffle on!) as long as you don't take a reward you can drive up to 16 seater if your over 22 and had your licence for 2 yrs

Ok yes it is as clear a mud!

The bit in section 3 says you must meet all of the conditions, one of which is you are driving on behalf of a non commercial body...not sure if owning and driving the family is on behalf of a non commercial body? I would read that to be a charity, scouts or the like.

Better off speaking to Dvla then.
