Unfortunately I've had the news that my L322 has been deemed beyond economical repair due to someone smashing into the back of it at 40+ MPH, the fact it still drove away and stood up as well as it did is a testament to their toughness I think.

Anyway my budget is £12-13k tops, what would you replace with?, I want another LR product, my options so far seem to be:

1.Another TD6 L322
2.RR Sport TDV6 if I can find one without mega miles
3.Disco 3
4.Stretch myself and get a TDV8 L322

I really can't decide at the moment, I'm a bit annoyed to be honest as mine was one of the 'good' ones, had the gearbox done before I bought it and has done countless miles and been good as gold.

Also I've been asked if I want to buy back the salvage as a Cat D for £2500 but don't think it's worth bothering with?.

I presume you're bothered about MPG as you're speccing diesels? As you're into SC money and that opens a whole new world of fun...

Clearly, another L322.

Personally, I'd avoid the Td6. The TDV8 is MUCH better and the whole car benefits from major revisions other than the seats which, to me, are a backwards step.

Or why not try, as championed by Krusty, a SC L322? I'm biased, but they really are wonderful things to own and drive.

I wouldn't mind an SC but I've been there and done that with the SL55 and I do about 14k Miles a Year so unless there was an LPG one Diesel makes the most sense, it looks like you can get an ok TDV8 for 15k now with say 90k on the clock.
Disco definately a step back after an L322 then?.

Not really a step back at all, just a different vehicle. I've got a Disco 4 and a 5ltr L322 and they're both great cars. In fairness if I had to choose I'd have to take the D4 for it's 7 seats... but i'd certainly miss the luxury and most of all the power/performance of the 5ltr.....
As I've said many times before the SC offers Bentley Luxury, Jaguar XFR performance and Land Rover practicality all wrapped up in one package.

Tough choice, drive both

just saw a vogue tdv8 on the bay with high miles circa 160k IIRC but it looked very clean and tidy and was only an 07 i think. 12kish

sorry if im vague but i closed the page an hour ago so cant be too accurate except to say it caught my eye as a nice looker, dark blue with a light interior that looked mint for the mileage.

I replaced mine with a SC Sport, but that was a nod towards downsizing.

What's the extent of the damage on your old one...is it worth considering?
Could have it back with a bit of cash in your pocket to.

Could you buy the car back and either repair or break it for extra cash?

If not then you have a few choices, I would agree on avoiding a td6 as they are slow, have a crap gearbox.
Disco3 HSE could be a good replacement as your budget would get a nice lower tax model and leave you some change to give it a tidy up/refresh on some of the suspension parts.

Same with sport. Blank the egr's on them and add a decent remap.

They also are good in crashes as well...

The main thing is your ok, yes it sucks to lose a car but it did it's job in keeping you safe.

if your car is a good un and is easily repaired , get it bought back and repair yourself,

if you fancy a change anyway , go for a s/c and have it lpg'd

I tend to agree with other posters saying Discovery 3. Similar performance and economy to your Td6 322 but newer platform and a less agricultural engine, although that bit is subjective.

Could be made to look more current by adding Discovery 4 lights if you're that way inclined.

Tend to disagree - I went from L322 to D3 HSE and felt it's a monumental comedown. On paper they both have all the toys, but in reality the L322 is on a different planet - quieter, more comfortable, better built and feels infinitely more expensive.

I stand by my original suggestion - L322 V8.

I probably came across a bit hard on the 322 and didn't intend to. I agree, it's a great Range Rover and offers the highest level of luxury, comfort and refinement.

I'd still recommend the OP has a drive in a Discovery 3 though maybe just to dismiss it if nothing else.

If only you'd got one with a black interior...

I have a 4.2SC petrol, wife a Discovery 4. No comparison, Discovery feels agricultural compared to the RR.

Ah, so the Llama interior in the D3 is actually a step in the direction of taste and decency - albeit a very small one. Still, progress is progress, so well played your team...smile

Having had a quick drive of a 07 TDV8 RR Vogue, i was sold on it.
My D3 is a great car, but the RR seemed to have that little extra sparkle about it.

Plus the engine was superb. It had me looking at models on autotrader but the figures can't be made to work. hehe

Would have been with a black interior though. wink

Having an L322, and having been in a D3, I wouldn't go happily for a D3.

No to the Sport - too heavy, based on a D3 and ultimately not a FFRR.

Were it me, I'd stretch myself for the TDV8.

My sympathies over losing yours though. Losing a car that is "just so" is painful.
