I have a MY2001 general workhorse that gets driven around the place by a number of people but very rarely by me, I drove it for the first time in a while the other day and have noticed a horrible knocking noise coming, I suspect, from the drivetrain someone. Seems to be happening in forward and reverse and not just under full lock. Are there any usual suspects in the drivetrain ad what sort of repair bill are we talking - is it worth it?

We had exactly the same thing with our 2002 model. When pulling away or over rough ground. I thought it sounded expensive but luckily just turned out to be a loose mount. Get the car up on a ramp and grab hold of the propshaft and give it a shake up and down. Mine was the drivers side transmission/engine mount. It just needed tightening.

Chances are it's the bushes on the rear diff, upper mount.

It's a simple bracket and fairly easy to swap out.
