Disco 4 or FF Range Rover?

Hi, I have a Disco 3 SE which I've owned for the past 7 years. Nothing wrong with it and it is without doubt the most comfortable, practical car I've ever owned. I've even got it to the point where it is now reliable, however it's getting on a bit and I fancy an upgrade.
I have between 25k to 30k to spend so I'm thinking of a 3 year old (2011) SDV6, 8 speed Disco 4 either in XS or HSE trim. However, I keep thinking it's just a face lifted Disco 3 and wouldn't really feel like a 'new' car. Is this fair? Alternatively I could get a 2010 FF Range Rover which is different enough end certainly an attractive option.
Any opinions on which way I should go?

Depends how much you need the boot/seven seats.
I went from a D3 to a D (they dropped the 4 from Nov 2013 production) and think it is a big step forward. I personally don't like the brand image of RR as the D is much more classless which I like for the use this car gets but if you like logos on your shirts then buy the RR.......

Thanks, has anyone gone from one to the other? I love the cavernous interior of the Disco and 7 seats do come in handy for extended family outings. Rangie does look nice though.
I went the other way at wife's behest: from a FFRR to a Disco (albeit both with the proper engine and correct interiors) and it felt like a gigantic come down. On paper they're very similar in spec and capability but in the metal they're a very, VERY different prospect.jep said:

Principally this. Whilst I miss the opulence of the FFRR for "me", the whole familywagen factor, plus a smattering of outdoorsy activities and relatives with a farm, I treat the Disco with utter contempt and yet it keeps coming back for more. I've taken it places I'd never have dared take the FFRR, not because the latter was any less capable of getting there, but it's akin to standing on best antique furniture to paint the ceiling instead of a work platform. One is deeply practical and thoroughly usable, the other just as capable but feels like one ought to ask the butler to fetch the dining cloth in case one were to scratch the paint. Oddly, it's one thing that has stopped me from changing to a D4 - the very fact it's gone more luxurious and upmarket (and no longer comes with a decent engine). There's something very solid, dependable and practical about the Disco 1, 2 and 3 and then with the 4 it feels more a FFRR-lite which suddenly makes one think twice when leaping in to it in a soggy wetsuit or filthy cycling shorts.... Then again that maybe answers your own question: it will feel a different proposition to the 3...

Hmmm...so I think you are saying stick with the D3 or if I must, go for the D4. Must admit I do not like the newest "Discovery" brand as it looks a bit tart's handbag for my liking with the daytime lights. Land Rovers should have a utility feel to them so perhaps a low mileage 2011 Disco 4 HSE is the way forward...Oddly, it's one thing that has stopped me from changing to a D4 - the very fact it's gone more luxurious and upmarket (and no longer comes with a decent engine). I have a FF Autobiography SC petrol and my wife has a Disco 4. The Discovery feels what it is, a workhorse, and ours has approx 130,000 miles on it now.
The RR about 45,000. Both have been extremely reliable. The only issue we have ever had has been dealer experience. Local one is rubbish, but fortunately
a far better franchise exists where we are most weekends. If you want an every day car that will do everything then Discovery. Depreciation will probably
be less than a RR also.

Agreed, they're all a bit chintzy and Cheshire/Chelsea for me too, here's to hoping the Disco 5 will return to being a bit more utilitarian.
