D4 air suspension problems
Discussion
Generally, within a minute or two of starting the car and driving off, I get this ...
I sometimes leave it in normal height and sometimes in access height (elderly dog).
The dealer has looked at various ills related to the air suspension since we bought the car.
Now (warranty expired), they're saying it needs a new compressor (£600 estimate).
Starting the car and remaining stationary though, it'll go up and down happily.
It's only when we start driving we get this message.
That makes me suspect it isn't a compressor issue.
Any ideas?

My RRS recently has new compressor and would show a similar message. The pump wasn't producing enough pressure or volume in a specified amount of time. It was reaching its target eventually so that it didn't affect the normal everyday usage, but there was no spare capacity to supply the extra demands of raising or lowering the car.
The pumps do wear out after time, even if there's no apparent leakage from the lines or bags etc. If you're handy with a spanner they can be purchased from the usual places at a more reasonable price than those of a main dealer, although I assume the £600 quote was a fitted price.

I put up the number of my mobile Indy in the Scotland area garages thread.
He will travel to you and check it out.
Does the pump run on after start up?
Does the car sink overnight?
The pump and air tank are under the passenger side doors. Could be worth having a quick look under to check.
The AMK pump fitted to the D4 is far better to the D3 hitachi one so I'm surprised it could be failing but they do wear out.

early D4s and Sports have the hitachi compressor fitted still, AMK item came in around 2012, plenty of D4s coming through now with the compressor failed... my advice is bite the bullet and upgrade.. a second hand compressor is only a temp fix as that will fail at some point, and dont even bother with the rebuild kits...
