Hi All,

I've recently bought a 2010 model RR Vogue TDV8 which came with the pre-heater key fob. The light on the fob flashes when I press the button near the car but not when I'm away from the car.

This morning, I go to the window, press the button, it flashed and I thought that was it done. 15 mins later, I go out to the car and it's as if it doesn't even have a pre-heater.

So, either I've been sold a car with an extra fob and no pre-heater, or the pre-heater is broken, or more likely, I'm doing it all wrong.

Can someone please tell me how it works/what I need to do to make it work?

Thanks, Richard

I seem to remember in the manual it says if the battery is low it will not trigger the FBH. Have you tried activating it from the settings menu?

Not 100% sure but I think the ambient temp also needs to be less than 5C too...

...but don't quote me. wink

I think they also refuse to play if the fuel light is on.

Thanks folks,

I haven't tried a manual set up yet - but that's probably a good starting point to see if the car thinks the battery is too low. I'd suggest it's probably ok as it started fine after being laid up at Gatwick for a couple of weeks recently and electrically, it hasn't missed a beat.

However.... I tried it again yesterday and the light in the fob didn't work so it could well be a weak battery in that.

I have seen the fuel light before (nature of the beast!) but it's always had plenty of juice in the tank when I've tried it.

If time allows, I'll set it up manually at lunch, to come on tonight for leaving time and tomorrow morning. I'll let you know what happens.

Had this with mine, the fob wasn't programmed to the car. My friendly local LR dealer very kindly relieved me of £100 to programme it for me.

Morning all,

Right, lastnight I set the manual heater and this morning - lovely - as soon as I opened the door, I was hit with a cushion of warm air. So, the manual setting works.

However.... I was of the opinion (told by a buddy with a Disco) that the fob operated pre-heater also warmed the block? When I turned on the engine, cold air blasted out until the engine was up to temperature so this leaves me to think the fob operated pre-heater (especially as I'm told it was £1000 optional extra) is a different animal from the manual set up cabin heater.

It should be the 'Webasto' system... This works by warming the coolant, which in turn will let the car blow warm air into the cabin but it also means it should be warming the engine.
