I was astonished today while chatting to a technician at a West Yorkshire L.R dealer who whispered to me that the hourly rate in the workshop was £158 ! Furthermore, repairs on anything over three years old were intentionally 'steep' as they didn't particularly want the work on older cars ! It wasn't a 'sour grapes' statement, just a chat with the son of a family friend.........I was gob-smacked !

More than likely the same dealership that advised me the rear washer pump was seized and needed replacing at a cost of £200. Whilst driving through Europe, an indy garage mechanic stuck the end of a paper clip up the jets, job done, no charge.

Nothing gets 'fixed' anymore, just replaced. That's the mentality, so if your washer doesn't work they won't waste time investigating. Replace! Hence 'technician' not 'mechanic'.

£158/hour is simply ridiculous. Hence why I would never run any modern, expensive car today with a fully manufactuer warranty.

I spent £550 on my extended warranty this year, because I like piece of mind and because of the 'known faults' with my FL2. Any, sure enough, diff oil pump replaced. Cost £650, so I'm up £100 so far!
