Hi,
The Kumho KL71 tyres on my Bowler are past their best, they will do until next autumn but not another winter. The only downside I've found is that they are directional so one of the two least-worn tyres will need to be flipped on it's rim.

Possible replacements tyres include the BFG KM2 or perhaps a Cooper but a change in brand will require a set of five (LSD/full locker in both axles).

Mileage is around 10,000 miles PA split 60/40 tarmac/green lanes.

I'm interested in suggestions based on practical experience for tyres in 235/85R16 size...I'll start saving now ;-)

Wrangler MTR (or whatever the equivalent is these days)?

Cracking tyre. Used to run them on the works 110s, where it was very much a mix of on/off road.

Hi, thank you, an interesting suggestion.

We didn't have much luck with these on the race bowler (they were control tyre in 2003 BCCC) and swapped for fedima directionals but I'll add them to the list of contenders.

Presently looking at:

KL71 again
BF Goodrich KM2
Goodyear MT/R
Cooper STT

Not a Bowler, but someone I know runs Conti AT on his 2012 Defender. They were OE fit and he prefers them to the BF Goodrich and GG AT2s that he ran on previous Defenders.
I was impressed by how good they were on boggy fields and seriously muddy gateways when I got a lift from him once.

From my experience with running 235/85x16 tyres I would put these in this order;

1. BFG KM2
2. Cooper STT
3. Goodyear MT/R
4. Kumho KL71

I am running on Insa Turbo Sahara on my 110 racer with great results.

Even though we were on 265/75x16 General MT in this shot.

Thank you Andy, I'll start shopping around. Have there been any group tests of the four tyres you list?

FWIW - Any of the top 3 would get my vote.

Maybe but not that I can direct you to but I have tested all of them on my own 110 and many others......these are my findings, have been playing with rubber for very many years now. wink
