I have a totally standard 2.4 (Puma) defender 90 (2008, 60k miles) and I want to get it tuned for a bit more power.

Problem is there are so many people tuning defenders out there it's hard to know which to go for!

I've been looking at tune my defender, twisted, je engineering, nene overland, alive tuning, bas.....etc

Just wondered if anyone has used any of the above companies (or any others) and what was the result?

Main priority is that the tuning must not compromise reliability, as I don't want to do anything which would damage the vehicle.

Appreciate if you could share your thoughts on any tuning you have had done.

Thanks,

Philip.

Or you could just not bother...

The Defender isn't built for speed. If you want a fast car... Get a fast car.

I have a good friend with a 2.4 Puma 110 and a BAS map. He doesn't rate it at all. More power, yes, but on balance he says the standard tune is better.

Not to say BAS should be avoided as I'm sure there are many happy customers.

If it were me, I'd go with JE. They're probablyy the most expensive but I feel that's backed up by the most development.

I've seen too many tuning companies efforts result in loads of power that over-fuel and cause long-term engine damage. Happened to me with one well-known company some years ago. It cost me a lot having it done properly elsewhere.

Agreed. I had some upgrade work done by them, not to give more power as such but just to make the standard Td5 a bit better and longer lasting.
Overall I can't fault CM's theory. Tuning a Defending is like fitting a tow bar to a DB9.
