Morning all,

Long term lurker, first time poster!

So some background. I am 31, owned all sorts, from a Renault 19 GTSX, an Alermia, a BMX318 coupe, a Merc 220 CDI Sport and then a Merc ML320. I recently sold the Merc and currently I am running around in a 12 year old 1.4l golf!!! Long story!

Anyway, its time for a new car. I have always wanted a Land Rover of sorts but she indoors has banned me from owning one due to them "always breaking down". Well luckily I note Land Rover now offer a 2 yr warranty on their used/approved stock so she has given the go ahead to enquire!

So, this Sunday I will be popping down to my local dealer for a meeting and a test drive on the following, and I have my eyes on the following.

RANGE ROVER SPORT 3.0 SDV6 HSE
Fuji White (Solid) with Ebony Black Leather interior
61 plate with 12k miles on it

also

DISCOVERY 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE
Nara Bronze (Metallic) with Almond Premium Leather interior
11 plate with 31k miles.

My max budget is £39k really.

So any pros and cons on the above choices. Anything I should be aware of or any I shouldn't even bother with.

Will be used mainly for on-road stuff, maybe slight off road every now and again but noting major.

Cheers.

Hi

I have have had 5 LR cars now (2 Defenders, 2 RRS and a FFRR) and in 20 years have never broken down or been let down once with any of the cars.

I have also had to spend virtually nothing (other than consumables) on any of the cars that I have kept outside warranty.

My second sport was the model you are looking at (as long as it has the automatic tailgate) and was a far nicer car than my first sport (that I had from new for 6 years and cost me zero)

I had small maintenance issues (covered under warranty) on both sports and my present FFRR and find the local main dealer to be as good as useless – needing three visits to sort out the most basic of problems – they really let the marque down.

I know that doesn't really help you with your choice - both very different cars which only you can decide which fits your needs best. Sport perhaps better bang for the money cos of the new model pushing prices down - but be aware there is a new Disco on the horizon.

Thanks for the above reply.

I am happy to buy one, but she grew up with her parents having them, and while she loves them, she has also seen the pain of her parents having to fix all sorts, like new engine, air suspension, electrical gremlins, heated seats failing etc etc while being fully serviced and maintained etc.

Now that they do a 2 yr warranty she is much happier!

So i gues snow i need to pick what i like the best (prob the sport tbh) and then try and get it for a good price. Dealer wants £38k for it.
