After almost 35 years of hankering, I finally bought myself a Land Rover a few weeks back - a nice, silver, low mileage 61-plate 90 XS, which I'm loving barrelling around in. It's the 2.2 tdci engine.

I've been contemplating a remap. A bit of Googling brings up a few contenders who, for circa £600, claim to be able to add 40bhp and upwards of 50Nm through software tinkering alone (albeit, most seem to come with an aftermarket air filter).

So... any recommendations or warnings?

I'm in Battersea, SW London, so the closer the better.

The current favourites are TMD: http://www.tmdtuning.com/packages-tuning-defender-...

Can I suggest you go to Alive or Bell Auto Services only.

Sure! Why? What's so good about them (or so bad about the others)?

I second that, I hear good things about these 2, and having spoke with Bell a few times, that is where I would be spending my hard-earned!
From experience, you will need to look at getting the exhaust a little more free-flowing as well as getting the filter sorted.
Good luck and look forward to seeing updates!

TMD only use Bell Auto Services kit.

They have teamed up with them to provide Pete's (B.A.S.) down South so I would not be put off using them at all. I hear good things.

I'm going to bring my Landy to CSK Automotive, just the other side of London but has a good reputation. Will let you know the results!

A friend has had his Defender tuned ( including suspension and steering upgrades) by Twisted. I drove it before and after the conversion and I was very impressed with the difference the upgrades made.

They are in the process of building him a 110 station wagon with a 6.3ltr, Supercharged V8!

The Defender isn't built for speed (it's not built for comfort either but that's another story...).

If you want a fast car...

...buy a fast car!

Thanks. I know and I've got one.

I don't want "fast". Just "a little less slow".

hehe

Well indeed.

I'm enjoying it very much, it must be said. Yesterday I found mud and got it dirty for the first time.
