Freelander II EGR cooler issue
Discussion
Apologies if this has already been covered, but on the work fleet we have a Land Rover Freelander 2 SD4 HSE, 32000 miles, bought used 3 months ago from a well known dealer group. We specifically paid for an extended warranty, which is a dealer warranty scheme, not JLR.
Yesterday we had the AA called out (via the dealer warranty scheme) due to coolant loss, and a leaking EGR cooler was diagnosed. Is this a recognised issue, and if so, does anyone know how to go about checking & getting the work done, maybe as a gesture of goodwill by JLR?
Unfortunately, the warranty people say take it to nearest dealer...we are in mid Wales...nearest dealer is in Shrewsbury and their labour rate is £92.50/hour, but labour is capped at £40 per hour under the warranty T&C's!
Why is labour capped at £40/hour? Where the heck can that be achieved at any main dealer?
Any advice gratefully received before we go spending...
A quick Google has thrown up this.

Two things , no idea if they will help you but........... My Renult Trafic van had a EGR cooler failure that resulted in very quick coolant loss . Luckily I spotted it . The van was just out of warranty but Renault paid the complete cost . It was considered to be a non serviceable item so no blame could be made on the owner .
Secondly my son recently bought an A class from a non main dealer , he bought a warranty with it . It had a total electrical failure after two weeks . The garage instructed us to take it to the local Merc dealer and the warranty company rang me to say the max rate was £45 for a claim and Cambs Merc was £105 per hour . The selling garage made up the difference with no quibble .
Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. We'll pursue the dealer I think. Engine light has now come on too so maybe more work needed.
