wondering if anyone can shed any light on this.

I recently bought an Ex MOD 90 and sadly someone has fitted it with the most atrocious neon blue bucket racing seats I've ever clapped eyes on!

Defender seats (even second hand ones) seem rather expensive and surprisingly rare. I was toying with the idea of some series bench seats from Paddock, they're £140 plus the VAT brand new which I'm happy to shell out but would they fit.

does anyone know? I've scoured the internet and can't seem to find an answer,

thanks!

possible - almost certainly, remembering the 90 rear tub is slightly longer than a series

legal possibly not depending exactly on dates etc ...

Thanks for your reply but i should have mentioned that it's the front seats not the rears.

They probably will fit, but they're pretty lacking in support and turn to board after an hour or so; Defender seats aren't that comfortable but they're much better than the series seats; they're pricey because the bolsters get a lot of stick when you're getting in and out. As you've probably seen a serviceable used set goes for ~£250 and new ones from Exmoor trim is over £800. Or if you're willing to DIY like me, buy a set of knackered Defender seats and a retrim kit; there are good videos on youtube showing how.

Edit to add; Paddocks(other Landrover spares vendors are available) will do you a pair of front seats for £460.

see other comments aobut how poor series seats are compared to defender or other car type seats ...

there is also the option of cutting down the bulkhead at the rear of the car ( and adding reinfrcement) if you intend to stay hardtop ...

Series seats should fit just fine in a 90 (the older ones came with them fitted from the factory).

My 1986 had arrow of three basic series seats across the front, and when I restored / updated it recently, I decided to keep the bench set up in the front rather than fit more modern seats. The Deluxe series seats from Exmoor were a straight swap onto my existing frames, but I cannot see why they would not fit into a later defender so long as you got a set of frames too (and drilled a few extra holes?).

Here's mine - seats fitted last week:

Aftermarket seats are worth a look. Saab seats are popular, but get them from a breaker and not Ebay as Ebay prices can be a bit crazy.

Only downside is they take up more space and yuo loos etha ability to get into the cubby holes under the seats.

thank you all for your kind replies, just thought I'd update you all.

so i went and bought an absolutely immaculate pair of defender seats today from Scarborough, drove an hour to get there and paid £200 for them.
got them back and removed the old seats to find that my vehicle has what appears to be series seat runners. marvellous.

what a fool i am! back to square one!

That's quite a drawback considering the battery is under the passenger.

Presumably you've bought a set with type B seat rails(a single fastening front and rear) and your seat box is drilled for type A which has two screws at each end of the rails. DIYing it won't take long, just drill out the rivets holding the captive nut plates for the type A mounting and fit a set for type B.
