Land Rover Defender 'Road Tax' Question
Discussion
Hello, I wonder if anyone can answer a couple of questions for me please.
At present I have a Defender 90 TD5, which is fab. It is the Hard Top so classes as commercial- hence lower rate tax. I have a hankering for a "civilised" defender project - thinking sound deadening; some nice leather buckets; air con ... But fairly standard externally. Not looking to 'pimp' the exterior. Anyway my wife is not against the idea of us getting another defender as a project car as long as it has "4 proper seats". Thinking 110 again hard top, not station wagon, or a double cab. So my questions are:
1. Do 110 non-station wagons qualify for commercial rate tax also or are they £500+ road tax?
2. I read a review, admittedly from a guy who thought all defenders should be thrown into the Irish Sea,!that said double cabs were cramped in the back, and the seats too upright and uncomfortable. Is this true? And are the hard tops the same please?
3. Finally I am considering an engine swap to either a Jag diesel or V8 (preferred option except for the fuel bill). Anyone know how this works with road tax???
Sorry for all the questions!
