Defenders & Trackers
Discussion
MrsC was out and about in my Landie yesterday and as the result of another (unrelated) crime, she got talking to the local "rural beat" bobby, who looked at the truck and strongly advised that we fit a tracker.
We're actually fairly careful with it security-wise, and it has 3 secondary security measures always in use (although they're not infallible and don't stop it being picked up and carted away). My question - is it really worth adding a tracker, and if so, which one? And what do those cost?
Thanks.

Get one.
Mate of mine had his battered old N-plate 110 robbed from Bristol.
He got a text to say the vehicle was mobile, phoned plod who then intercepted it at the Severn Bridge when the ANPR at the toll booth spotted the truck and refused to raise the barrier.
He was without his Landy for a couple of hours.
Think he's got Skytag or some such. About £12 a month IIRC.

I did a ton of thinking about this and came to the conclusion that unless you go for a top spec Tracker with the VHF, they are all very easily defeated. Mobile phone and GPS signal can be blocked very easily even if they cant find the unit.. So I went for a cheap battery powered GPS/GPRS tracker off Amazon. No wires to run and weatherproof, so can go anywhere (be as cunning as possible with the location), about two to three weeks between charges. Not a perfect solution, but works well and might help me find it if it goes walk about.
