My 2010 Disco 4 with 56k on the clock has just failed an MOT with excessive corrosion on the rear brake pipes. Googling it seems to be quote a common issue. I would have expected brake pipes to last more than 7 years.

A bit of a coincidence but I had the brake pipes done on my classic Range Rover for it's MOT in September. Original steel pipes replaced with Cupro-nickel So the originals lasted 22 years.

That is quite young for them to fail. Most garages are quite savvy to this now and new pipes can be spliced onto the old ones depending where the corrosion is. Failing that budget £1500 for a body off job to replace the pipes. Worth considering replacing other components whilst the body is off including the anti roll bar bushes.

Any independent worth their salt will replace with split pipes. The ones on my 2008 D3 were done two years ago, so lasted broadly the same time - no less appalling for it, mind you.

Dodged the bullet on this a bit. The bit of corrosion that if failed the MOT on was limited to one small section of pipe around one of the clips. Cleaning off all the corrosion and gunk has revealed the pipe is not pitted and it's gone through it's MOT. All the brake pipes have now been cleaned off and waxoyled.
