I'm only vaguely looking as I thought D4s were I bit new and pricey for me, but GSs seem to be much cheaper than HSEs. For instance there's a 60 plate one locally on 88k that's up for £14k... It's got a cloth interior but is there anything I might miss spec-wise.
(I was looking at V8 D3s originally and wondered about a comparable D4. 56 plate on at £10k, with 100k miles, seems steep in comparison even if it is an HSE.)

The difference between HSE and GS is night and day. HSE as full Premium Windsor leather with all electric seats with memory on the drivers side. All seats front and rear are heated as is the windscreen. Reversing camera and pre heater for those cold mornings. It really is a big difference.

Tbh the reversing camera is the only bit I'd miss. ( And I tend to view the rest as more bits to go wrong...) I'm more interested in the bits underneath, so coil springs might be a deal breaker for instance.They all have a fuel burning heater that should kick in when starting in temperatures under 4C. Remote operation kits were available as a factory option on the D4 (I think), but there are almost certainly available as an aftermarket fitment.
If you go ahead with the purchase, I recommend joining the Disocvery 3 and 4 Owners Group on Facebook. Wealth if knowledge on there.
If the D4 FBH is anything like the D3 unit, then they can lock out and cease to function if you run the fuel down to the warning light more than three times.
Either are worth having as if the glowplugs go on those engines, it can be a very expensive job to replace them.

I bought a 2014 last week
I went for th xs as it misses out in soft leather memory seats and heated rears but has the sat nav,camera and elec seats that I wanted.
I regret not getting the hse for the headlights, they look so much better but the cheapest 14 plate was £6k more.
Having moved from defenders and a 2014 shogun I’m very happy with the Disco

I ought to be all over the idea of a D4, but I sold my D2 a year ago and I'm not sure I'm ready for another LR product.I may have a D4 in about 10 years time. D3 costs me a bout a grand a year in maintenance and essential mods just to keep the thing running. Serviced it myself this year just to save a bit of cash.
At least the D3s dont suffer too badly with the chassis rust. However rust issues are starting to appear on D3s, especially round the inner aches as they are water traps. I recon rear cross member replacement will also be quite common in a few years time.
I’ve had a GS and an HSE Luxury. I actually loved the rugged simplicity of the GS and would have one again. I was going to take it to Seat Surgeons in York for a full tan leather interior but went for a new car instead - apparently they’re very good, though.
I’d miss the memory seats, heated seats and wheel in winter and really love the 825w stereo, but that’s about it. The sat nav is crap regardless of model and while cornering lights and high beam assist are nice to have they’re not something I’d spec myself.
I’d get a GS and have brand new leather fitted and retro fit cruise control if it doesn’t have it. If you’re lucky you’ll find one with front parking sensors as an option.
