As per title, I'm considering a Range Rover as a dog/utility/snow vehicle and would like to go pre-March 2006 to get the cheaper VED. Which of the two is the better car or doesn't it really make any difference?

Ta.

I had a 54 plate Pre-face list with the touch nav.
It was a 4.4V8 on LPG and faultless for two years.
We also had a 55 plate SC in the business from new and it too was faultless.

The 3.6TD V8 from 2006 is higher VED but far better on fuel and you get new toys too.

Thanks, but I want a petrol not a diesel.

The 4.4 (Jaguar engine) is by far the rarest, but a desirable purchase and almost trouble-free.

The 4.2 SC is highly addictive to own (I've owned mine for nearly 5 years) and far easier to source.

Either would fit your needs, so I would suggest looking for both and buying whatever meets your criteria (condition, price, colour, history, etc) when the right one comes along.

I had an 06 4.4 BMW based one I think. Leaked small amount of oil but other then that fine.

I was thinking about one of these as well as a tow car and it's reassuring to hear some real life positive reviews.

Whenever LR/RR is usually mentioned there is talk of instant/impending doom & catastrophic failure.

Oh and I now have a P38 1997 4.6L V8 Petrol £1500 but yes problems, Once sorted out the issues I have found since ownership I am confident it will be good too.

Looking for a 3.6TDI V8 L322 at the moment, right one not found though.

My LPG 4.4 has the BMW unit was a great car.
It did leak oil too.

Best to go on condition really.
Both good cars.
But the 4.6 Rover based engine is a great bit of kit.
The BMW 4.4 has a reputation for rattling cam chains at high mileage.
Jaguar 4.2 is a pretty good bit of kit.

I have a 2007 4.2 SC, it has all the toys you could want.
I particularly like the updated controls.
The granddaughter loves watching TINYTOTS on the Digital TV on the way home from school! smile

The SC engine is just a joy to drive, very powerful.

Mine has LPG, so helps overcome the £535 road tax rip-off!

Drive both and then hand the keys to the 4.4 back to the seller because you won't want it.
