Disco 4 Split Tailgate - Wifey's Annoyed
Discussion
After ten years with the Shogun from almost new - wife fancied a change. We bought a three year old Disco 4 a year ago. So much more refined than the Shogun, much better engine & a great main family wagon - ideal for towing the horse box & putting dogs in the back. Did have to have new bushes as steering wobbled under braking - this has almost eradicated the problem - all done under warranty. Overall we like the Disco. However, my wife is frustrated with the split tailgate for loading/unloading. With the boot fully open its a stretch to load/unload. When you split the tailgate so only top windows is open its a strain to load/unload due to 'up & over' movement. My wife is not a midget but does suffer with occasional nerve pain. I would say we are both normal height, weight etc & even I find it a stretch sometimes. This is our first LR - we like the brand & really suits our lifestyle with horses & dogs. But think the split tailgate will be a deal breaker for any future LR purchase. Can see her wanting to change to a Cayenne or other German SUV.

That shouldn’t be a problem with the D5 if that’s your next move
Must admit haven't got up close to the D5. But looking at pics on Autotrader of the D5 it still does have a split tailgate. Think RRS2 doesn't have a split tail gate though.Edited by GameofCars on Sunday 17th December 16:58

It doesn't have a split tailgate, it has a flim flam seat type thing that folds down if you want to sit on it. You can easily lift stuff over it as it is not as big as the D4 split tailgate.Edited by GameofCars on Sunday 17th December 16:58

It is deep and difficult to access. Can be annoying I agree - made up for when you realise just how much stuff you can get in there! You could always have a look at the optional sliding floor...
