I'm looking at getting a Discovery 4, budget up to £16k. What are the main differences between TDV6 and SDV6? Is one "better" than the other?

Thanks

Nothing if both 3.0l. It’s only a badging change.

SDV6 probably has a DPF and may be 8 speed but depends on year.

Engines the same though. Later SDV6 has a few more hp, 10 I think.

I think it's pretty well established that the SDV6 with the 8spd ZF box is a substantial improvement over the previous incarnations. I have one - not sure I would have bought the earlier versions.

Thanks. Looks at many ad's the SDV6 comes as 242bhp or 255bhp and some with gear stick and others with turning selector. Is there a definitive as to when the 8speed gearbox came out?

Thanks

10bhp more, dpf on some, the 8 speed came out on a 12 plate. So any car on a 12 should have it, unless it's old stock.

Lever stick is 6, dial is 8 speed. 8 speed is nicer to drive, but as with the 6 speed, you need to get the box oil changed every 50-75k or so to keep the box and TC happy for long term.

Thanks. Many seem to be badged SDV6 but are in fact only a 6 speed.

I also would suggest getting a print out of the vehicles warranty history as well if it's possible. Seems with these that if you get a good one it's plain sailing but vehicles with issues seem to have multiple issues. Just turned over 70k in mine and it's been the best car I have ever owned by far. Family loves it as well - my daughters actually got quite annoyed with me when I mentioned it might be time for a change! So it's staying.
