Freelander 2 - whining noise when reversing

Getting an occasional whining noise when I’m reversing my FL2 (2009 TD4e manual). Only is when reversing and is sporadic. No warning lights or impact on performance.

I had both handbrake shoes replaced 3 weeks ago. Any ideas what could be up?

I believe there can be an issue with the rear diff. The Freel2 forum is a good source of information.
(owner of 2007 model as yet not whining)
