Most reliable modern Land Rover…is there such a thing?
Discussion
So I have a my 17 Discovery sport which has been reliable but has had a lot spent on it….timing chain, turbo, glow plugs…fulll service etc.. the usual!..but it’s time for something else now and I fancy a little more luxury.
So reading through the forums it feels like a L405 4.4d could be the best of a bad bunch.. Now I may be way off the mark here…I accept there will be issues…what are everyone’s concerns thoughts on this?

Don’t listen to the legions who parrot unreliability stories without ever having owned one. My RR (L405 S/C 5l) has, in 60k miles, let me down exactly as many times as my supposedly equally unreliable Cerbera: 0 times.
One minor issue with tailgate and heated seats within first couple of months of ownership.
My wife bought a 2018 Evoke demo and has put 70k on it since. It’s had 3 MOTs, 3 services and 2 punctures(same wheel, first one not fixed properly)!
Is she lucky? Or just not posted online about every time her Land Rover got to the desired destination without issue…every time…for seventy thousand miles.
Evolve as an example, but runs true throughout.

I have a 2015 LR DS. It's the first edition so it has the Ford 2.2L engine, not the 2.0L Ingenium engine. It was a LR owned demonstrator/loan car which I bought at 7000 miles or so December 2016. Now done a modest 63000. Always fully serviced to plan (was with a JLR MD, now with a local indy), never failed an MoT, always starts, never broken down. I have an extended JLR warranty which is I think in its final year now. Used it once for a new Haldex unit, no problem.
I think it will be difficult to choose what to replace this with. I agree with OP's comment that it is a bit utilitarian but that's OK with me; I like the black exterior, sand leather interior and panorama roof, a good combo.

It’s when people buy a 5 year old but can’t afford the running costs that it goes wrong.
There is also the issue of things starting to wear out and the fact that some of those things will be expensive.I am starting to get a bit more diff noise and doubt it'll be long before the likes of a suspension overhaul of some sort is needed. Not really any different to other cars though: remember when I had all the bushes done on my 5-series and the way it freshened everything back up.
No idea what ^^^ would cost on the RR, but even if it's a couple of £k, that's small beer compared to the depreciation on a new one.

Be careful though, there can be wriggling on occasion. Had it with the "JLR" Approved Used warranty on my Defender... not actually operated by JLR and it took a good while to get sorted. Would not rely on it, especially if coming to the end of the term.R.

I bought a new P250 petrol Evoque in 2019 (my first JLR) and after nearly 24k it hasn’t missed a beat. It has been more reliable than Porsche, Mercedes and BMW’s I have owned in the last 15 years. I am finding it hard to justify a replacement
Side question…how is the power of the petrol and the MPG?I'm on LR product number 4 and I will dish out the same advice I tell everyone on the FB pages.
Budget £1k PA in repairs (in addition to servicing) and have five times that in the bank should something more serious go.
I have been on the FB groups for over 10 years and there is a steady stream of engine breakages and people celebrating journeys of 300 miles. You never see that on the Porsche Cayenne pages.
The 4.4TDV8 is certainly meant to be one of the better engines. They can have oil cooler issues and if the Turbos go, its an engine out job, but the Turbos are considerably more reliable than the ones fitted to the earlier 3.6TDV8 fitted to the L322.
LRs are best in class when they are working. Bob/Jeff/Adam telling you he has never had any problems in 15 years is completely and utterly pointless as you are the one who will have to pay for the engine rebuild and not them. When I had the engine rebuild on my 2011 5.0SC, it was a multi week wait as all the engine builders were bust with the ingenium 2.0Cyl 3.0SDV6 replacements. They literally had racks and racks of engines and for most that was their bread a butter.
My L322 left myself, wife and two kids on the M62 for nearly five hours after the water pump blew, it over heated and the net result was a rebuild. I shall be selling it soon as none of the family want me to keep it anymore. However, as a long distance cruiser, they are in a class of their own. Add a Pan roof and full electric tailgate and I think it would be near perfection. Less body roll would also be preferable.
With every generation of LR product I hope they will improve, but it just doesn't seem to happen. There is even mummering of the the D300 IL6s having inherent issues, but its quite early to tell.

Not quite sure why you’ve decided to drag me into the mix, as my L322 has knocked up a few bills. Nothing major so far though!
