Posted in Car Buying but unfortunately got crickets…

I’m on the hunt for a Range Rover Sport L494, ideally from around 2018 to 2021. Budget is £35–38k, and I’m aiming to find something with around 40-50k miles – with the intention of keeping it long-term.

I’ve leased my last four cars, so this will be the first time I’ve bought in a while.

I’ve been doing some homework on engines and I’m leaning towards the D300 – seems like it’s the newer mild hybrid Ingenium unit. But I’d really appreciate real-world feedback on its reliability, running costs, and how it compares to the older 3.0 SDV6. Am I right to try and swerve the SDV6 altogether, or is it still worth considering in the later model years?

Also, are there any must-have options I should hold out for? Things like panoramic roof, Meridian sound, heated steering wheel, 360 camera – are they worth prioritising?

Any buying advice or ownership experience would be massively appreciated. I’m not in a rush – just want to get the right car and make sure I’m buying with eyes open.

If you can, 100% get the D300. The last of the line SDV6 engines did have some improvements over the previous versions but the general consensus is go for the D300. The SDV6 will always have that stigma attached to them.

As for options, you have got it right
- Pan roof (The opening version!)
- 360 camera
- Heated wheel
- Rear HVAC controls

Best way is to get a Autobiography spec car if you can as for the most part they are fully loaded.

I have also been looking at the RRS as well, but an earlier car (15/16 TDV8 or leggy 2.0 P400E). They drive quite well considering their size and the interiors are lovely.

I would strongly advise getting a solid warranty as the green oval have a pretty poor reputation and this is form someone who has been on the forums for over 10 years and owned four of them.
