AC - DC Converter

HiCurently have a 2020 4.4 V8 Diesel so has no battery assistance / AC - DC Converter.Looking at a V8 4.4 Petrol thinking it had no battery assistance / AC - DC Converter but now found out it does 😭😭I know someone who back in January after the Hack had his Defender off the road about 7 weeks waiting for an AC/DC Converter.Q1 - has availability improved should it go wrong?Q2 - They now appear to be on every car LR produce, so I assume it's only a small percentage that fail?Thanks in advance for any feedback

The 4.4 petrol has the 48V system/DC-DC converter. There's no reliable failure-rate number, but the recall in the US puts it below 5% of all affected cars. JLR redesigned the unit and parts availability was poor and caused long VOR periods, no idea what it is now though with the US recall of 170k cars in process. Later 24MY cars and 25MY onwards use a revised converter, so if it's a show-stopper for you, I’d favour a late 24MY or 25MY P530.

Mine isn't a FFRR or a V8, but a L494 (i.e. previous gen RRS) with an i6 diesel.

Anyway, had a DC-DC failure out of warranty, and argued a warranty cover for the fix due to it being a known failure point. I got new DC-DC converter and also a new 12V battery in the boot. I paid 10% to get a warranty on the replacement parts.

DC-DC converter was on back order for a number of weeks, so LRUK put me in an Enterprise courtesy car for about 6wks if I recall.

Thanks for the feedback.I was originally looking at the V8 petrol to avoid a battery / AC-DC converter, but as above realised that every LR engine option on current models now have battery's.Upped the budget, reduced the engine size and gone for an early 2026 D350, I'm moving from a 2020 V8 diesel so on paper the 2 engines deluver similar power which is more than enoigh, we shall see.Hopefully being a later model I will have no AC-DC Converter issues 🤞🤞
