Range Rover P38 Radio code - is it me ?????
Discussion
Hi, apologies if this has already been discussed on here but I need some help !
Just bought a 1995 P38 4.6 HSE with everything working (apart from the usual air-con and heated seats). When I bought the car the original stereo unit worked fine but I had to disconnect the battery while carrying out some work and now can't re-enter the code. I have the code but all I have is 4 hoizontal lines accross the centre screen but no means to enter the 4 digit number. I have tried depressing the BND and MAN button together after disconnecting and re-connecting the battery but to no avail.
The annoying thing is I know the unit works and when I first tried to do it I was allowed to enter a code but being the numpty that I am I entered the wrong one !!!!
Is there a time delay or a reset I don't know about ?? Please help 'cos I ain't taking it to the main dealer at this stage !!
An an aside, is it nearly always the condensors that go on the P38's ?? Any guides on how much the job is to fix all in ?
Thanks in advance. Adi.

Thanks for the advise. I have left it for ages with the head init switched on and yes, it does then give the prompt for the code. I then entered the code (which I beleive to be correct) and the screen does nothing. I am then left with the four digits entered on the display. Am I meant to be pressing another button to actually 'enter' the code or should it simply be accepting it?
Is worst case scenario a call into the main dealers to confirm the radio code I have is correct ??
Cheers, Adi.

It doesn't sound like the code you are entering is the correct one. After you've been prompted by the unit to punch in the four digit number ('Code In' on the display) you should then be able to enter your code.
If you've entered an incorrect number press the 'BAND' button (above the number 1 digit) and you should see 'Code In' again.
Re-enter your number (carefully!!
) and the unit should start to function shortly after the fourth digit has been pressed. You don't have to enter a 'Confirm' or 'Enter' button.
If still no joy, have a rumage in the bumff you got with the car and there may be the security card with the radio code (along with the emergency Key Access Code) somewhere and try again!

Yippeee !! My radio now works. I did the waiting thing (over an hour) with the unit switched on and was then prompted by code in as I had been before. This time I had decided to have a proper troll through the paper work/service records and discovered another piece of paper with a serial number and a four digit code. As the one I had previously been entering was entitled 'radio code' I thought it was the correct one! This time however I entered the recently dicovered code and everything came to life !!
Thanks GKP for all your advice, it's very much appreciated.
To MG6B, stick with it or else the humming will drive you mad ! The ICE fitted to the HSE is a great bit of kit and makes driving the 'beast' even more fun ! Thanks again, Adi.

Hi there! HELP PLEASE!!
I have a 98 L.Rover Discovery, and after disconnecting my battery the radio is now asking for the code. I've done this process before. Back then, I got the code from LR, input it and radio came bck to life, BUT this time, it's behaving very weird and doesn't seem to be accepting it, it doesn't even acknowledge when I input the numbers...the word "CODE" never goes away, it bips and nothing happens.
I've already tried disconnecting the battery again,...but no joy!
Could anyone please save my life?!?! The dealer told me I would probably have to buy another radio and also forget about the original CD changer because it wouldn't work with anything else!!!!

Frustrated!!!!
Hi! I just bought a Radio Cassette (AMR 2672 Diversity)from a friend for my Range Rover 4.0 1996. When I installed it, I turned on my radio and "code in" showed up in the lcd. I entered the correct code but the numbers didn't get through. "code in" remains "code in"
Just to test my radio, I tried to hold Band and then turn on the power, the FM work with a intermmitent beep. I noticed I cant switch from FM to AM station nor access my CD. Do you think this radio is defective or I just missed some connections like adding a ground wire? Please help...Thanks
A bit off topic, but I just sent off my P38 head unit to a place called Roverville Radio, (roverville.us) who also have a branch in sheffield. For £90 they fixed my Clarion head unit (on which the liquid crystal display was shot and the output knackered, and gave it a full service). Got it back and its now like new, and means that I don;t have to get an aftermarket unit and lose the use of the steering wheel controls. Like someone has already said, the original kit is great anyway.
I think that the Roverville chap said that they could also reprogramed the codes?

Clarion themselves charge a lot less than that, all in !! Codes also done.

No, the unit does not respond that way... nothing happens on the screen when pushing the numbers, sometimes some beeps... but nothing else.
Is it true that the american version of the discovery has a 5 digits code?... or posibly, the code I have is not the real code??
Thanks,

UK units use a four digit code and the Clarion system.

UBICUS is this the method you are using to enter the code?
It looks like the code should be 4 digits.
Code Entry as Follows:
Switch Radio On - Display Shows
" RANGE ROVER " And Then " CODE "
Press Preset "1" And The Display Will Show
" 0 "
Press Tuning Up Button " > " For Correct Digit
Press Preset " 1 " to Enter
Press Tuning Up Button " > " For Correct Digit
Press Preset " 1 " to Enter
Press Tuning Up Button " > " For Correct Digit
Press Preset " 1 " to Enter
Press Tuning Up Button " > " For Correct Digit
If the correct code number is now shown
Press Preset " 1 " to Enter
If not, try it, it just may work.
