i purchased one of those air scoop thingies that sit on the passnger side wing for my defender which are supposed to improve the effeciency of the heater, ie make it less rubbish.

however, since fitting it i note that the top temp emmited by the heater now feels significantly lower.

have i missed a vital stage here, or what? my feet are still thawing from sunday.

Nervy I can't remember which motor you have and you haven't listed them in your profile rolleyes. So do you have a TD/200Tdi/300Tdi/Td5/V8? The reason I ask is that the later models have slightly larger heater matrix's so produce slightly more heat, I've fitted a 300tdi to mine and it's noticeably warmer(I can also recommend heated seats from www.exmoortrim.co.uk). IMO those scoops push way too much cold air over the matrix for it to be heated effectively. Also Land Rover heaters are shite.

300tdi at the mo' chum, and although the heater is shite its significantly better than those that have gone before it. but, was keen to try the upgrade all the same as id heard many good things. i cant help thinking theres something amiss somewhere as the theory is fairly basic.

heated seats for my feet it is then?

banghead I'll read the thread next time banghead
You could always take the heater unit out and make sure the matrix is ok. Before you do that though look at where the water pipes exit the matrix if the matrix cap is plasitic it's one of the newer larger type(by about1.5cm rolleyes). I am currently designing a new heater system for the footwell for middle row of my 110 if it works I'll drop you a line.

No problem. Do you get any hot(i mean warmish) air through the bottom vent? the hoses that link the heater to these outlet vents might have come adrift.

yeah, i do. the whole thing gets warm eventually, it was just the time it took i was hoping the vent would hope with. of course i could just nail some ply over the rad, that would probably bring up the temp a bit quicker....

Mine starts to get luke warm after a mile but takes a good five miles to get warm! Ply over the rad does work but if you rad isn't 100% you can get a hotspot and blow a hole through the matrix.
