Defender Questions
Discussion
Apologies if this has been done to death in the past.
I am thinking of buying a Defender to ferry me to the station each morning. I have lost so much money in the past few years on cars that I want something reliable and as near to depreciation proof as possible. I have up to £12k to spend (although needs to be from a dealer who will p/ex). I seem to be in the Td5 1998-2000 territory. Some dealers (who do not have any cars in this age range!) have said I am better off going for a 300TDi or spending a bit more to get an 01 Td5. Any thoughts?
A few other questions:
1. What is the windscreen demisting like? Can you retro fit a heated windscreen?
2. Has anyone had dealings with Reid Land Rover in Horsham, 4x4xFox, The Man For Land Rover or RCV The Diesel Centre?
All thoughts gratefully received!

Hi dulcinea
You don't mention what model of defender you are after, 90/110: hardtop, station wagon, crewcab or pickup? In my experience the station wagon will hold it's value the best.
1. Windscreen demisting on mine is fine for me(it's a 200tdi) heating on all Landrovers is pretty shite. You can fit a heated front screen LRO did an article about 12 months ago.
2. Can't help you with any of these sorry
. 300Tdi vs Td5 there's a debate that splits the Landrover community down the middle. They each have their pro's and con's. You really need to test drive each one and make you own decision. It might pay to wait for the new defender to arrive as I'm sure a lot of people will be doing trade in's.
Hope some of the above helped
Matt

seems like a lot of vehicle just for the run to the station. how about a car instead?
