After an on/off purchasing dilemma spanning many months, I am back considering Defenders but now looking at 90's rather than the 110's I started looking at. Just missed a 200tdi for a shade over £3k this morning, was 2nd viewer but 1st viewer bought it. I now have one spotted that is showing as having a Nissan 3.3l Diesel engine - am pretty sure this is the same one that I have spotted on AT for some months now but was sporting a 2.5td (which I was advised to steer clear of) and am guessing the dealer realised that it was not shifting with that engine in and has done a swap. It looks VERY clean but not sure about this engine, does anyone know how it would compare to a 200tdi performance wise, am guessing probably not very well despite the larger capacity. From what I can gather from googling, it might have well been out of a Nissan Patrol. Garage selling it now shut till Monday so can't ask them more about it, am only guessing it is naturally aspirated as am sure they would have mentioned if it was a 3.3TD.
The Nissan engine is a brilliant engine. Its been done on a lot of LR conversions, especially in the early days of the defender where it was offered by some conversion companys as a more powerful alternative to the then 2.5TD and naturally aspirated 2.5.If im right in thinking the Nissan engine is actually built under license from Perkins.
One other thing T.C. Defenders are a bit like Cerbera,s you really have got to want one to take one on.Im LR through and through and have just spent a week driving a 50th V8 90 around. For me the best 90 ever built. My only gripe as with any defender is the lack of elbow room on your right side.It seriously pissed me off,but apart from that it was superb in every way and so simple compared to a Range Rover
Ooh well that sounds quite encouraging - Had ruled out 90's on grounds of not being able to get 2 child seats in but think I have got around this problem now, hence back looking at these. TBH it will not be used for long journeys ever so think it will be fine on the comfortableness front, it will also MAKE me use the Cerb more which is good; it has been too easy of late to walk out the house, see my big comfortable Lexus and just hop in that (Lexus now gone). Main family type stuff, longer trips etc will be handled by wife's Alfa (156 sportwagon) anyway.

Just had a look Sinclair. To be honest its a bit basic for your needs even with the good engine. With your kids you need a CSW spec at least.
Can't I just change the seats (or get some of those nice canvas covers I have seen in a Land Rover mag) and maybe throw some carpet in. Not bothered about the lack of rear windows, think I might even get to run it through the business as a commercial that way as well and avoid company car tax
Or was there more changes beneath the skin for the Countys? Edited by touching cloth on Saturday 20th January 20:22
