Max towing weight for swb Series 3?
Discussion
Hi All,
A pal of mine with the above series 3 Land Rover wants to pick up a new boat and tow it home. I am vaguely aware that towing regs have 'tightened up' and thought the collective wisdom of PH'ers could point us in the right direction.
Does anyone know the max legal towing weight for a series 3? The load comprises a Nordic Folkboat (approx 2 Tonnes) on a braked 4 wheel trailer.
Cheers in anticipation
Graham

Hi - no idea about the legal side but from the Haynes manual for my 88" SIII the maximum laden trailer weight info is:
Cross country - 1 ton (1020kg)
Road (unbraked) - 0.5 ton (510kg)
Road (overrun brakes) - 2 tons (2040kg)
Four wheel trailer with power brakes - 3 tons (3060kg)
And the towbar nose weights:
Minimum - 50lb (25kg)
Maximum - 112lb (55kg)
There seems to be no differentiation between 88" and 109", but I will go out to the garage later and find the original LR manual to double check......
