OK, have a Discovery 3 but now need an I-Pod connection for Mrs Fubes (whats wrong with CDs??)

LandRover want £177 for the unit and a further £100 to fit. Now, that seems a very expensive way to do it. Anyone know what alternatives I have to the LR version? I know nothing about i-pods but shirley there is a cheaper way of getting the i-pod connected? Particularly as knowing the lady in question as I do, she will revert to the radio/cd within a matter of months if not weeks. rolleyes

The simplest (cheapest?) way to connect an iPod without hacking lumps out of your car is probably one of the FM units which clips onto the iPod. You then tune your radio into that frequency, and you're off...

I haven't tried it, but have been told it works well. (You can also tune your home stereo into it).

that would be an ITrip ...

they not bad but can get a bit hissy now and again.

TBH i just use one of those cassette jobbies that has a headphone jack sticking out of it, because i am usually already using the fag socket to power the ipod, the phone, the sat nav, the missus's phone etc.

£5, job done.

That was my first thought, though Im not sure the Disco 3 has a cassette deck?

Where would one find one of these FM jobbies? Sounds like a plan. Cant see the hissing being a problem as she'll get fed up with it in the end anyway rolleyes

Wimmin! Cant live with them....and you cant kill 'em hehe

I bought an original Griffin iTrip from the US back in the days when they weren't legal over here. To be blunt, it was crap! I'm sure that the newer ones are a great deal better but I decided to go for a Belkin Tune Base FM (see link) as it offers easily selectable alternate transmission frequencies and it also charges the iPod. It works very well. Not saying its the best thing out there but I can recommend it.

John and Skier, thats more like it, just the jobby

Not quite sure the difference between the Belkin and others on the Ipodworld site is (price excepted) so I will, as usual, buy on price (priciest will be the best, right? )

Yes it is an HSE. Couldnt see this AUX plug in the rear but there is one each side right in the back (7 seater) with volume controls. That the same thing? Would be a bugger to use all the way back there. May just go for one of those £40 radio signal jobbies

Definately you have an AUX port behind the centre console, where the rear ashtrash/air con vents are

Cheer G, will have a better look tomorrow when I get home from this trip.

So I just plug it in there then use the controls on the i-pod (not a technophobe, just never used one of these i-pod jobbies...CDs seem far easier ) and away we go?

Fubes, was in Halfrauds earlier, they had the Denison Ice thingamy for about £70 with free fitting. Meant to be better than the FM transmitters I think because it goes in via the aerial socket (or aux in if there is one) so connectedrather than trasmitted, should mean no interference. Not as cheap as a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable if you can find the elusive socket, but it does also give you a nice cradle which the ipod sits into and I assume charges it at the same time.

Might be worth a look at least .... Oh and when did you get a Disco 3??
