Discovery smoke for first 30 secs

Please could some of you give me an idea on this one.
Just bought a Disco 200tdi, and when I went to look at it there was no exhaust smoke to speak of. Now I've picked it up, I notice that when I first drive off from a cold start there is some blueish smoke but it only lasts till I get to the bottom of my road, about 30 seconds max. Its quite noticeable as I can see it through the rear window. After that I can't see any for the rest of the journey. I've been monitoring the oil consumption and it doesn't seem to have used any in about 100 miles this week.
The only thing I can think of is that the seller had arranged for it to have a new MOT and this was done between me viewing it and picking it up. Is it likely that someone at the MOT centre has adjusted something on the pump or have I bought a dog!!!

sounds like It could be valve stem oil seal gone hard. the oil seeps through them when the vehicle has been left a while and it burn off at first when you start up

As above it's your valve stem seals can be changed in situ just don't drop the collets

definately stem seals.

tip, telescopic magnet for the collets saves lots of heartache or a sympathetic missus with small fingers

I'll get onto it sometime. Its not at all bad at the moment so I'll put it on the list.
