Hi,

I've got some 1"-2" holes in the spring hangers at the front on my 2A (1968) would it be better to plate over them, or go for a front quarter chassis replacement.. anyone?

Cheers,
Matt.

Depends how big the holes are but if you've got some rot then the surrounding metal is likely to be suspect so I would go fro a replacement section.

Depends on the condition of the rest of the chassis. I changed only the legs (from the first crossmember forward) because it was cheaper and faster to do so; and so I did with all rotten sections. After four years, all the usual places had been welded, but the structure itself was to weak, so I had to bin the whole chassis.

On my second and current Landy, I replaced the whole chassis with a galvanized one, and I don't expect hassle with it in the next fourty years

If the rest of your chassis is sound, do only replace the front spring hangers (without the crossmember).

If you need a manual, drop me a line; I'm sure there's one in one of my old LR mags
