FREELANDER 1.8 PETROL ADVICE PLEASE
Discussion
By '03 they'd had all the mods and upgrades that are available. Land Rover were one of the few users of the K series that held their hands up to the fact that HGF was an issue.
If you're buying from a dealer then the warranty would cover any potential headgasket problems, if you're buying privately don't let the possibility of a HGF cloud your enjoyment of the car. Failures really aren't all that common (pub talk notwithstanding!) and as long as you don't cook the engine by continuing to drive it for miles after the gasket has failed, you're only looking at about 500 quid for a workshop to fix it.
Keep an eye on your coolant level (normal weekly checks of oil + water etc) and get used to where the coolant finds it's level in the expansion tank. Coolant loss can occur through many things, not just HGF.

Most warrantys will not cover head gasket failure. So read all the T's and C's.

Well we have had the freelander for a week now and i do like it.
Said i would never buy a petrol because we are on our second discovery Tdi and they have been fab,tow a stupidly large caravan with it and launch a boat most weekends and use it every day to go to work and back. Now the wifes got the freelander petrol for more refined outings.
All i need now is a TVR SAGARIS for the summer.
