On my disco the rear brake disc's now have a groove in them but not on the face on the mid section , due to the pads (that have plenty left on them) dropping down and cutting a deep groove in the disk, has anyone else had this problem and what caused it, it is on both sides.

Could only think that you have had a stone stuck in the caliper. Happens quite a lot on the off road vehicles.

It is not on the face of the disk it is on the cone type part where the bolts are located, the face is perfect but the pads have dropped down from the caliper and the edge of them are cutting into the disk.

Maybe the pad retaining clips have broken?

Both sides of the car or the disc? If it's the latter then the pin retains both pads, if it's both sides of the landy they might have been badly fitted.

BOTH SIDES AT THE REAR OF THE CAR MATE, I WOULD IMAGINE THAT THEY WERE THE WRONG ONES SUPPLIED AS NOTHING ELSE EXSPLAINS IT.

I've not had anything from Paddock that lasted more than a few months, but then I may be unlucky. But in their defence they don't argue about changing stuff

It sounds as if the combined thickness of the pads + disc is too small for the calliper, allowing the pads to drop off the inside edge of the guide. You say there is plenty left on the pads. Is it possible you have the wrong thickness discs fitted?

Something stinks here: Either the wrong pads have been supplied and fitted, or your fitter has f'ed up in a big way. Any fitter worth his salt will/would check pads before fitting for correct type and inspected discs for excessive wear! Pads DO NOT fall out unless as stated earlier pins fail. If you discs have been grooved badly then I'd bin them and start again with new, you don't want to lose any disc in an emergency.

Cheers everyone, I have ordered new discs and pads anyway, I didn't have time to fit them last time so I sent it to a mate's local garage and I think this time I will do it myself just to be on the safe side.
