Disco TD5 Upgrade
Discussion
I had a stage 2 (remap, larger intercooler and K&N air filter) fitted last year. Good installation and makes a noticeable difference. I had this fitted predominantly to assist with towing to which the conversion is well suited. I have'nt noticed any significant difference in fuel consumption and the conversion seems robust. Just beware the administration/billing it could be a little more organised.
Their suspension upgrades work well too.

You could try a chip upgrade from an Autologic Dealer. These are normally cheaper and give up to 30% more torque, you loose all of the throttle lag and more importantly get improved MPG!
The JE power upgrade is good but expensive.
Try www.diagnos.co.uk for your local dealer

A full remap is the way to go ............and they dont cost the earth.

Many years ago...I worked for JE, even now I would say that their stuff is better than most on the market, but you are right that it is expensive.
At the time I was there (quite heavily involved with the diesel tuning as it happens) we didnt get any failures or problems with the Td5 stuff. The defender demo vehicle is still running sweet as (as far as I know), and believe me...that took some abuse!
Hope that helps.

Well, after three years of pondering and bottling out I finally had the Disco upgraded today with JE's stage one chip upgrade. The car feels much smoother in its power delivery, and mid range power is greatly improved.I've ordered a k&n filter aswell,so hopefully this will find another horse or two.Early days yet but i'll post again to let you know how I get on.
K & N air filter?
Didnt you want the ITG filter? They do seem to work very well (i thought we used to fit them as std when I was doing it!).
As I said in the previous post, they are very well engineered but a tad expensive. For ultimate perf get the stg2 fitted...it makes a difference again!
Have fun with it.

The ITG filter comes with the stage 2 I believe,I've never liked those foam filters,I had one dissintigrate on my TVR S3 a few years back, went all crumbly and caused havoc as it got sucked into the airflow meters.I've recently changed to a K&n on my Chimaera too and it seems to run better as a result.Does the stage 2 have another remap or is it just the addition of the larger intercooler do you know? Was wondering whether it would be possable to update in future, forgot to ask yesterday?

The stage 2 is another map to take advantage of the larger intercooler, it is possible to upgrade at a future date but they will probably charge you for a complete stage 2 kit.
After doing quite a few miles in vehicles with the upgrade fitted I can say that its well worth it...did you get to drive the defender?
I got quite into playing with the fast diesel stuff when I worked there, resulting in a little Rover 200 TDi which would do 0-60 in just over 7 secs. (not supercar quick, but leagues on from std!), had about the same torque as a std 4.0 chim.
Even built a diesel rally car engine!
