If any one is able to offer any experience on this I would be very grateful.

I currently run an XKR as an everyday car. Recently I have thought about swapping it for a van but one thing holding me back is not really knowing how the costs for the two compare.

I use the car for a daily City commute and then at weekends there is a long run out to the country where it is used on normal roads.

Fuel economy is my main thought and how it compares to the XKR.

TIA

You can really only expect around 11-13mpg around town.A bit more on a run.

hi there, only used to get 11 mpg running around town in a 4.4 disco and 18 on a good run.the problem is keeping your big right foot off the loud pedal and not using all that grunt!

There are two average mpg displays, the one that I have not reset in 20k miles reads 17.5mpg but I don't do much town work, mostly 90ish on the autoroutes mixed with country roads at modest speeds.

The tank's big though at about 100litres so it has a pretty good range. Running costs other than fuel have been negligible, no oil between services, services are free for 5 years/75,000 if you get one with the VIP pack (and that includes brake pads & discs). Any problems were sorted under warranty at no cost to me. Main dealers will give you a solid LR 1 year warranty on used cars.

That said I have just ordered a TDV8 Vogue being delivered in mid April - much the same power, loads more torque and 25mpg supposedly. Test drove one last weekend and it was superb, so quiet compared to the petrol.

Thanks. Consumption doesn't look much different to the XKR.

I'd be very interested in how you find the TDV8 as that would be my preferred route but the current 6 I feel would be very annoying as a day to day car as it lacks oomph.

I actually test drove the TDV8 back to back with a supercharged and actually preferred the diesel! Engine suits the car better, super quiet and pulls strongly out of corners with no drama. The s/c is obviously faster but also a little more frantic and certainly not head and shoulders above my existing 4.4 in terms of acceleration.

Haven't driven a TD6 so can't really compare but I suspect you are right.

Horse ran both at the same time, a XKR and 4.4 Vogue. The Rangie is a lot worse than the Jag for fuel. My Jag avg low 20's the Rangie mid teens in town. Rangie is a mighty fine vehicle and I would recommend it, but keep the Jag!

Thanks.

The van would be to replace the Jag. Happy with the running costs of the Jag but have to admit I would find it uncomfortable to pay so much more fuel duty on the van. Screw reducing carbon emmissions I am dedicated to reducing the amount of tax I pay to bank roll this huge generation of losers we have bred.

I'm guessing that TD is probably the way to go, rather than the 4.4 but at present the 6 would just be too annoyingly slow.

Forget the TDV6 Rangie, it spoils the whole experience of owning such a vehicle. Why not put the dog in the RR, the rubber floor mats and dog guard as standard make it perfect.

I honestly cant see whats wrong with the TDV6.Ive driven all the current LR products and have had a TDV6 for three weeks now and it seems very competant. If anything it was the RRSC sport that impressed me the least. It just didnt seem that quick to me,and to be honest couldnt see what all the fuss was about.

Allow me to put my pedant's hat on for a minute. The Range Rover never had the TDV6 fitted, that is a fairly recent Land Rover developed engine used in the Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3. By all accounts it is very capable.

The Range Rover diesel just prior to the new TDV8 was the TD6 which was an older BMW developed 3 litre unit, by all accounts it was pretty slow in the Range Rover.

Sorry, its the TD6 I mean.I feel such a pratt, and ive been around LR since i was a kid, some 30 or so years.Well to be honest it didnt feel at all slow to me,it was quite responsive, not as quick as the X5,but more than adequate.
