When you are at altitude fill up with the lowest octane gas you can find but make sure it's unleaded. Buy your gas when it's cooler like early in the morning, you'll get a little bit more for your money. Do regular maintenance and make sure to use the proper grade of oil and change the air filter regularly. Keep a close eye on tire pressures inflate to factory spec's. Remove any tool boxes, roof racks, etc when not needed. Don't idle the engine for long periods, turn off the A/C when not needed.

Drive at a steady speed as much as possible and drive slower yikespaperbag
Keep the windows rolled up to lessen drag. Plan errands to get as much done in one area as possible.

Nope, no experience with conversions to LPG or CNG but it should be no problem with a Land Rover, from what I understand these conversions are some what expensive up front but will save money in the long run.

Someone on here will be able to answer questions about fuel conversion for you I'm sure.

That doesn't work. It used more fuel to restart the engine than a few seconds idling. And depressing the clutch doesn't work either - the engine needs fuel to keep running on tickover but not when on 'over-run' - ie when in gear with the throttle off. also the steering would not lock if you were to turn the engine off unless you actually take the key out!!!

If you want to save fuel, just drive more gently and plan your approach to junctions etc and ease off earlier - or alternatively don't run a 4 litre V8!!!!!
