Wife's K-series engined Freelander has the apparently typical problem with it's gearbox, ie it's a sod to use, rather like the K-series engined Elises' are.

The question is, do those strenghtened gear change cables that the Elise people can buy also fit Freelanders?

Oh & the improved gear stick thingies too.

Appreciate the advice if anybody has any, her gear changing grates on my nerves at the best of times.

The Freelander doesn't use cables for the gear change like the Elise/MGF. It has a solid bar bolted to the bottom of the gear lever conected to the gearbox. It should be a fairly positve action. If it's difficult to move you may have another problem, such as the clutch dragging or simply wear in the gear lever pivot points.

If you are having gear selection problems it is generally due to the clutch release mechanism either failing on the hydraulics, or , the bracket that the slave mounts on has cracked. or both.
Not a lot of monet to fix either.

Thanks people. Looks like I'll have to teach her another way to find reverse.
