Took the Range rover for its MOT yesterday (it passed)

On the drive home i stopped at a set of traffic lights....
Man pulls up next to me in a supercharged range rover sport....and says... Haha why have you got a supercharged badge on your car you idiot everyone knows they only started making supercharged range rovers on the sport. Then closed his window....

At wich point the lights turned to green. He pulled away with a bit of a screech from the tyres and shot off.. I let him do this and just slowly followed behind...

Next set of traffic lights RED... Pull up along side him again..... Window comes down..... See this is a proper Range Rover! I replied...... (sarcastic mode) Yes your range rover is far superior. I could never out accelerate you in that (he laughed and called me a wan*er)

There is a 3 mile ong stretch of duel carridge way after these lights so i saw my opertunity to have some fun with him......

Lights turned to green and again he leaves with a screech from the tyres the difference being this time im watching him in the rear view mirror!! So i slowed down to let him past. Drew level with him...

He looked across looking a bit embarrased and then floored it..... So i responded a swiftly overtook him again.

Stopped at the next set of traffic lights. He looked a bit annoyed at this stage... Did he open his window?? No! Just stared straight ahead......

Dont judge a book by its cover.....

Great fun!

Love itclap

Always used to have this sort of fun in my 1985 90 which looked like an old nail but had a 3.9 breathed on V8 under the bonnet plus 4 barrel weber and sports exhaust. Very easy to get the mpg into single figures. That used to leave many a hot hatch driver with astonished looks and bleeding ears when I let it go.

I really miss that carweeping

I’ve experienced the ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ before.
It was my pleasure to do my engineering apprenticeship with John Welch at a time when he was building up to his later success as British Rallycross Champion. At that time his engine sponsor provided 3 engines (of Johns own design). The best one was in the race car, past best was in the tow car (Lotus Cortina) and his newest engine was being gently run-in in his sisters Anglia. It had huge mud flaps that hid the outsize rear tyres.
Now, as everybody knows, running-in should be a mix of gentle and spirited driving with nothing in excess but even confined by these rules it could scare the sh1t out of performance car drivers who thought they were going to leave the lights first.
It was in this car that I first experienced 100mph but with John at the wheel not his sister.

Happy days
Steve

Never had it on a rolling road. JE say that its 380bhp with 420ft/lb of torque. Its the torque that does it!

So its 30bhp down on the new S/C, but lighter I take it? I Prefer the p38s anyway.

I'm not sure, having never seen a rolling road printout. The sports are rated at 410bhp, while the rangies are rated at 420. dont know why.

Dont buy a diesel range rover!! That would be like converting your tuscan racer to an auto!! ( unless its v8 diesel)

Although my Rangie is much heavier so does the sprint almost .8 seconds slower, I can appreciate the fun had in certain situations hehe, the fun really starts when already moving at a decent rate, the 70-100 time is excellent for such a brick on wheels.

Just for the record, the sport has 385bhp, 405lbft of torque and weighs 2500 kg, the full fat (proper ) rangie has 400bhp, 420lbft and weighs 2650kg, both compared to the P38s 2200kg.

It would be interesting to see a MK3 4.2 supercharged without the TVs and other gadgets, some weight saving options, tighter seats and further tuned suspension but I'm happy with the compromise considering its the commuter car.

Not a chance, I still keep considering a diesel conversion for the disco...i.e. take out the diesel and stick in an ls2 heheevil

My old 3.5 was supercharged. It was fitted with a DPR sprintex, and was set up by Supercharger guru Dennis Priddle.Dont know what 0-60 times were, but remember once going up hill on a long stretch of motorway and pushing it up to 135mph leaving a mate who was driving my 4.0 XJS Sport way behind.
