Does anyone know what would be involved in this, surely it's not as easy as bolting a Range Rover engine in place of the old TD?

I know that wiring would have to be sorted, even more so with an EFi engine, but do you need a different gearbox, are the engine mounts on the chassis in the wrong place, etc, etc?

Thanks!

I don't know specifically but have read a number of articles and you will need to change the engine mounts. Cut off and weld back in the correct place for the V8.

Other issues with fueling an efi would probably be new tank and fuel system that can handle the pressure plus all the wireing.

If I was doing this I'd probably not worry about the manual box and go straight for a 4.6 already attached to the auto box it came with. A 50th Anniversary Defender is an ideal pattern as it was built with a 4.0 V8 efi lump matched to an autobox.

Good luck. You'll never regret having all that power under your right foot compared to an asthmatic oil burner.

Lots of work to be done here, bulkhead is different, engine mounts will need be fabricated, tunnel, seat box and floor plates are all different. You can source all of these but only tackle the job if you are patient and good at fabricating.
If you need any more help drop me a line
Cheers Roy
