The time has come to give into the missus and choose the sensible family option - I am going to buy a Discovery 2.7 TD V6 HSE or SE . I see a few for sale with manual transmission - I personally would have thought that this is a car better suited to automatic transmission and even more so from a future resale point of view . Is it the norm that Discos come in manual trans. ?? Dont want to buy an ' odd ball ' . Opinions please - many thanks Barry

Hi Barry,
In my experience the auto is better than the manual, but, it depends on your sytle of driving and your preference. If the good woman is driving I would go for the auto every time.
If you want more power you can have it chipped which releases about 30% more torque and power without losing economy.
Let me know if you want more info.
Cheers Roy

Hi Roy

Thanks for taking time to reply - in my opinion a car of that ilk should be auto but have seen a few keenly priced manuals ( thats probably why ). I do prefer an auto but was just looking for another view or take on the subject as I am new to the brand . I feel if it has the full HSE spec it should be an auto , a full bells and whistles HSE in manual just doesnt sound right somehow Thanks again Roy , cheers Barry ( Glasgow)

Speaking as someone who historically prefers manual, the auto. TDV6 is massively superior to the manual. You wouldn't believe how much better it is. I own an auto. TDV6 HSE, but I've driven manual versions for approx. 500 miles.
