are these possible anymore?, ive heard they cant be done due to the type of gas/system the classic uses and the compressor and whole system needs to be upgraded to that of a P 38 is this true or are there places still out there that do them?.

What year is your classic?? The year depends on what gas is installed.
The only gas available now is 134A, which is cfc free, if yours is the earlier gas it can be converted but you must change all of the o rings in the system to neopreve, afit a compressor conversion kit.
I guess that who ever regasses it may make a charge for disposing of the old gas too!

its a 1990 on a G reg, are the later classics fitted with the newer system that the P38 uses then?, its probably too expensive to bother doing i might just put up with opening the windows i think!!

Hi, yes the late classics are fitted with the later gas and an uprated compressor so these can be regassed easily. As you say to aviod the cost wind the windows down and enjoy the fresh air!!
Cheers

How about a nice booze cruise to France. Whilst the family are in the supermarket pop round to a local A/C place and have it gassed with the old stuff. Met three people at LeMans a couple of years back who had made a point of having it done whilst out there.
New gas, EEC rules, and it would seem we are the only ones who take any notice of them.

my local air-con guy reckons he can re-gas anything with new gas. There's no conversion as such, Said he's done loads on old motors from the 80's. Not sure if it's BS or not.
He regassed my bm325 a few years ago after my dad had no end of trouble with it and he said there's nothing wrong with it - just use the dam thing! - and he was right.

get on to the interweb and find a local fridge/freezer engineer. They will have all sorts of gas for older machines.

My local chap re-gassed my system for £30 with the original stuff!

the going to France idea and the fridge/freezer engineer idea are well appreciated, thanks.
does anyone know which system a 1990 classic would have on it?
