P38: Yet more trouble, this time it caught fire!
Discussion
Not sure how many people have read my tales of woe re: my 1998 P38 in the past (new air suspension, new torque converter + pressure plate, new catalysts - they collapsed and blocked the exhaust, new air con: matrix & control panel, new engine: porous block etc etc).
It decided to catch fire the other morning - apparently a faulty alternator, which melted lots of underbonnet wiring (including LPG conversion) and ignited the soundproofing. The fire brigade were quick and stopped it going any further (not sure whether this is good or bad!?).
Waiting for insurance inspection tomorrow.
Anyone else had similar problem?
Shentodj.

Never heard of an alternator causing a fire, unless it had a major short inside.
They have been known to catch fire due to a water leak(!)under the plenum but these are few and far between.
Anyway Insureres will not rebuild burn outs anymore, they are too costly and remain too troublesome. Say goodbye to this one!!
Cheers Roy
