Okay, I am now tearing my hair out. AA man assures me it's the fuel pump relay, battery is dead after 2 months non use (it was barely alive 3 months ago)so I have replaced the relay and the battery, both are now brand new, fuel pump is priming, but this stubborn female machine of a Rangie refuses to start. I am begining to hate her although I never thought it possible to hate a V8.

Mrs MoJo is giving me serious grief, she even found the fuel pump relay before me, admittedly while I was kicking the sh#t out afore mentioned vehicle.

Now I sit here 2 bottles of Siglo Saco worse for wear, I ask for some fellow PH help.

What is my next step in convincing Mrs MoJo that the Rangie is not best destroyed and that she will be a valuable towing beast again.

Cheers

Simon

Someone, give me a clue, what could be wrong with this irritating yet lovable machine, how can I hear that thunderous burble of Rover V8 again.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi,

is it just turning over and not firing?

Is there a spark?

Pete.

Last time my 3.5 stood for a while I had to clean and dry inside the dizzy cap before it would even cough let alone run. Burst into life after that.

We need more info as stated earlier sparks etc.
How long has the old girl sat??
Has the fuel degraded?
Dizzy damp?
Has it got an immboliser/alarm that maybe playing up?

Sorry, was a bit vague.

Yes the engine turns over. On the first attempt at starting her up after changing the relay (and refueling from a can - so yes fresh petrol) it spluttered to life then died again. Now it's just turning over.

It has been stood for about a month to six weeks, and yes it does have an alarm/imobilizer which could well be playing up.

I'm off work on Monday so I'll try some of the above suggestions (dizzy etc) and may invest in some new leads. One step at a time, slowly slowly catchy monkey as they say.

( not sure who really says that actually )

Cheers for the advice so far. I will most certainly return to this thread after round 2 of human v rangie.

my old series 3 sat for 12 years un touched with a belly full of old fuel, this had long since turned to varnish and the fuel pump and carby both needed stripping and cleaning, mine too would not start regardeless of how much fuel we put down her neck , she would run till that fuel was gone and stop, the fuel line had collapsed in a rubber section, after plug, leads clean fuel and octane booster she starts without choke on first hit of button.

I'd agree with 968. Change the plugs first.
My old Classic was soooo fussy about plugs. They needed regular replacements and virtually every 'non-starter' I ever had was down to the plugs. I still find it hard to believe that with 8 cylinders, none of them would kick into life but it was so often the case!

Hi, just in case the wiring is at fault, try putting a wire from the battery + terminal directly to the coil + terminal then try to start on the key if it starts then you have some bad wiring in the loom.
